Yahoo for Ye Royal Fun!

For those of you that couldn't attend the American Royal Barbecue festivities this past weekend, well.... you missed out on delicious food, fabulous times, poopy cell-phones, hairband rock karaoke, drunk stupors {people watching... not me!} & memories to last a lifetime! Our "team" Del Smoka Vista {a play on a Seinfeld joke brilliantly thought up by Cristina} consisted of our Master Basters: Joe Leluga & Mike Pomerance of Savage BBQ and the sponsors: Arklyn Homes {hey! that's us!}, Cycle City, Mid-America Foot & Ankle Specialists {our friend Dr. James Good} and Nueterra Healthcare. Proceeds benefitted C3 Missions International who provided us much assistance {initial financial backing, an RV to borrow, smoker, etc...}. Mike's wife, Kristie, also whipped up several hundred chocolate chip cookies, side dishes and even took a day off work to decorate the booth. Cristina & I coordinated the t-shirts and "MacGyver'd" 10+ pounds of cole-slaw in the RV {without power} in a 1/2 hour using only a match, an aluminum pan, a corkscrew and a beer mug.

In a nutshell, Joe & Mike stayed at the American Royal grounds in downtown Kansas City for 3 nights {almost 90 hours straight} basting, chopping, smoking, rubbing, and slicing meat for not only our big bash on Friday night, but for the contest on Sunday. They had other crew-members stay over-night to help {see Shutterfly pix to see Jason crash on our couch after 4 hours of sleep in 48 hours}. For Savage BBQ's first time participating at the American Royal, I think they should be very proud of themselves: Their ribs scored in the upper 35th percentile and their chicken got 2 perfect scores! There were 475 entrants and they got 257th - not bad for a first year! I'm so proud of them {however will be billing them for my first heart attack bills due to sampling their red meat all summer during their practice runs}.

After reviewing the list of participants, I wanted to share with you some of my favorite team names {our name was perfect for us if you know what Seinfeld fans we are}:

Let's Kick Some Ash, MizzouCrewBBQ, Habitual Smokers, Woodfellas, Porkrastinators, Pig Newton, Partners in Swine, Two Men and a Barbie, Next Year's Winner, Smokin' Ass BBQ, Mason Dixon Swine, If You've Got 'Em Smoke 'Em, Bite My Butt BBQ, Grillas in the Pits, Smoking for Cancer, Flamin' Yawns, Chix Swine & Bovine and Oink Moo & Cockadoodledoo.

Shutterfly was "acting up" tonight when I tried to upload, so I just whipped up a little collage for y'all to see some "hi-lights". Check back with Shutterfly soon to see all of the pix. Click on the below picture to see "up close".
