Today's Flashback Friday is in honor of my grandparent's 68th wedding anniversary, which would have been this Sunday. My grandpa died in 2004 and my grandma died this past January. They were the spunkiest couple I know. Their life was like a comic strip or a sitcom. They loved to rile each other up much like Marie & Frank Barone on Everybody Loves Raymond {except that my Gigi didn't play mind-games like Marie and my grandpa wasn't a jack-ass like Frank}. They were very active; they both participated in the Senior Olympics, she was a clown, and he loved showing children his model train set. They loved nothing more than to have their family over for a big dinner followed by a leisurely pontoon boat ride on the lake, then back to the house for games.They met at Union Station in St. Louis back when it was an actual train station and not a mall with a Hard Rock Cafe and a Fudgery inside. They always enjoyed taking us grandkids to Union Station and showing us the exact spot where they met {to the right of the Perfumerie Kiosk and to the left of the gang shooting memorial *just kidding*}. They would even go back there on anniversaries and eat dinner or lunch at one of the many restaurants.
They were truly kids at heart and and their love for fun & games has definitely been passed down through the generations if a typical Long/Morgan/Robison/Izzo/Lewis/Twenter/Warren/Hrisco/Provost get-together is any indication!

Thank you for the wonderful tribute to Gigi and Grandpa and remembering them in such a special way. Today is also a very bittersweet day for Jim and I since we share their anniversary. I can only hope that we are always as happy as they were. It is days like today that I miss them the most.
you're right about their love of fun-n-games! :) miss them so much, but we all learned so much from them.
